About the Artists
KIAH CELESTE (b. 1994, Brooklyn, NY) Lives and works in New York, NY.
Kiah Celeste is a multi-dimensional artist whose work transcends fitting into one category or medium. Upon completing a BFA in Photography in 2016, Kiah moved into three-dimensional production. She has completed artist residencies and exhibitions within the US and internationally including Lisbon, Barcelona, New York, Chicago and Italy. In 2021, Celeste received the inaugural 21C Artadia Award in Louisville, KY and the inaugural Suzanne Fitzallen Jackson Foundation Residency in 2025. Her work has been acquired by the Speed Art Museum, KMAC Museum and the UK Art Museum. She has been featured in Hyperallergic, The Wall Street Journal, Burnaway, and ArtForum.
EMMANUEL LOUISNORD DESIR (b. 1997, Brooklyn, NY) Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Emmanuel Louisnord Desir explores how the Americas' colonial history continues to reverberate today, creating sculptures that offer alternatives to the bronze and stone depictions of colonial generals, presidents and other oppressive male figures while speaking to the roles marginalized people assume in this society, and how said circumstances may define their bodies and purpose. Through his religious upbringing, Desir appropriates allegories as opening points for discussing race, masculinity, and the desire for more within an oppressive society.
TAJ POSCÉ (b. 1995, Philadelphia, PA) Lives and works in Baltimore, MD.
Taj Poscé (b. 1995, Philadelphia) is a Baltimore-based artist whose work bridges painting, construction materials, and fire to explore value, memory, and the cosmic presence of ancestors. Through burned surfaces, hard-edged structures, and cosmic motifs, Poscé investigates the fluid nature of identity and the weight of personal and collective histories. His practice draws from universal law, spiritual lineage, and the intrinsic knowledge carried in matter. Poscé received his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art’s LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting and his BFA from the Tyler School of Art. He is the recipient of the Congressional Black Caucus Visual Artist Award, the Mural Arts Black Artist Grant, the Creative Baltimore Fund Artist Grant, and fellowships from the Hoffberger Foundation. His work has been exhibited at DIMIN (NY), Sean Kelly LA, NADA, and 7 rue Froissart, a satellite event coinciding with Art Basel Paris.
Fade is organized by Adria Gunter, Assistant Curator; Habiba Hopson, former Senior Curatorial Assistant; Yelena Keller, Associate Curator; Jayson Overby Jr., Assistant Curator; and Kiki Teshome, Curatorial Assistant. Exhibition support provided by Maya Davis, Abigail Gordon, and Taylor Ndiaye, Studio Museum/MoMA Curatorial Fellows; and Adaiya Granberry, former Robert Rauschenberg Curatorial Fellow; with research provided by Cam McEwen, Studio Museum/MoMA Curatorial Fellow, and Maria Wilson, Robert Rauschenberg Curatorial Fellow.
