Group Tours begin in January 2026.
Museum Educator–led guided tours spark conversation and enhance connection to artworks on view in the Studio Museum in Harlem’s exhibitions. Group tours are available to groups of ten to twenty-five people.
School groups must have one chaperone for every ten students. Chaperones are required and will not be charged. Guided tours must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
Guided Tours
Studio Museum Educators invite visitors to engage with art through an inquiry-based approach. Guided tours encourage dialogue that centers participants’ thoughts and experiences, fostering both personal and collective meaning-making. Tours last forty-five minutes to one hour and are open to visitors of all ages.
Guided Tour Fees

Guided Tours with Art-making Workshops
Following an interactive, discussion-based guided tour, students take part in an art-making workshop that expands on themes and techniques explored in the exhibitions. Guided tours with art-making workshops are are 90 minutes and are available for Pre-K through twelfth-grade groups

*Guided Tour fee is waived for Harlem public and charter schools located in NYC School Districts 5, 75 and 79 in the following zip codes: 10026, 10027, 10029, 10030, 10031, 10035, 10037, 10039.

Self-Guided Tours
Groups of ten to twenty-five visitors, all over the age of eighteen, are welcome to explore the exhibitions at their own pace during regular Museum hours. Mobile tickets for self-guided visits must be reserved in advance. External guides are permitted to lead in the galleries; however, groups participating in Studio Museum Educator–led guided tours are given priority.
Scheduling a Tour
- Guided tours are available for school, college, and senior adult groups Monday through Saturday, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, subject to availability.
- Guided tours for adult groups are offered Wednesday through Saturday during public museum hours.
- Guided tours with art-making workshops are available for PreK–12th grade groups, Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Self-guided groups are welcome to visit during regular museum hours.
Cancellations
Please email [email protected] in the event of a cancellation. Tours canceled less than forty-eight hours before the scheduled time are subject to a $50 fee for guided tours and a $75 fee for guided tours with art-making workshops. No refunds are issued for no-shows. Groups arriving more than thirty-five minutes late will forfeit their time slot and will not receive a tour.
Fee Waivers
A limited number of group tour fee waivers are available upon request for New York City Title I schools and local non-profit organizations.
Requests for group tour fee waivers must be submitted to [email protected] on organization letterhead following the submission of an online tour request.
Payment
Tours must be paid for by check or credit card at least two business days before the scheduled date. Please make checks payable to The Studio Museum in Harlem and be sure to write “Group Tour” on the check. Reimbursements are not provided if your group has fewer attendees than originally scheduled.
Lunch and Parking
School groups may request space to eat bagged lunches after their tour when booking. Lunch space is subject to availability and will be confirmed during invoicing.
Parking is not available at the Museum. Buses may drop off and pick up passengers but may not park in front of the Museum or in the city bus stop on 125th Street. Public parking is available on 126th Street, between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.
