Join us for our next Studio LIVE program featuring multidisciplinary artist and 2011–12 artist in residence Xaviera Simmons. Simmons works across photography, performance, video, sound, sculpture, and installation. Her practice investigates and re-imagines memory and one’s relationship to space through modes of abstraction.

During this program, Simmons and Legacy Russell, Associate Curator, Exhibitions, will discuss what a decolonized pedagogical and creative praxis looks like, how it can be built, and how it can be sustained in this current moment. Drawing inspiration from Simmons’ practice and the current socio-political climate, the pair will create space for the ideation of new systems of thought that firmly situate the arts within the political sphere in order to amplify and further make visible racial, sociological, and economic divides.

To watch the talk, visit the Studio Museum’s Instagram page at 6:00 pm EST.
