The Life and Legacy of Tom Lloyd

Born in Detroit and raised in New York City, artist and community organizer Tom Lloyd explored electronic light as an artistic medium. In the 1960s, Lloyd was part of a radical shift in the status quo that saw Black artists organizing and demanding visibility and representation for artists of color. His dedication to activism and community leadership propelled him to found the Store Front Museum/Paul Robeson Theatre (1971–1986) in Jamaica, Queens.
