Miami-born artist Woody De Othello’s solo presentation, coming forth by day, a new series of ceramic and wood sculptures, tiled wall works, and a large-scale bronze, travels to the Studio Museum in Harlem from the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, having originally been presented at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). This will be the artist’s first institutional solo show in New York City.

Othello’s practice is rooted in precolonial and diasporic African traditions, with the artist drawing from spiritual practices, hermetic philosophy, and cultural artifacts—including nkisi power figures, Dogon ritual objects, and Egyptian pyramids.
