September 13, 2025 11:00 am–12:00 pm

Lorraine O'Grady, Art Is…(Girlfriends Times Two), 1983/2009
New York Public Library Harlem
9 West 124th Street New York, NY 10027
Join us for a joyful session of art, music, reading, and play!
Come to Lil’ Studio and show some love for Harlem! We’ll begin by looking at Art Is...(Girlfriends Times Two) by Loraine O'Grady and observing how she captures Harlem's community and culture in this artwork. Next, we’ll pose for Polaroid photos, attach them to frames, and decorate the frames. We'll reflect on how our framed photos can celebrate Harlem friends and family. We’ll conclude by singing songs and reading H is for Harlem by Dinah Johnson.
Parents, caregivers, and organizations servicing little ones under five years old are invited to the NYPL Harlem Library to enjoy art making and other activities that encourage creative time and bonding.
Lil' Studio is designed to explore innovative ways to work in the community while taking the Museum beyond its own walls. Lil' Studio is free. Click here for accessibility information at NYPL Harlem Library. For more information, or for accommodation, email [email protected].
