Join us for a free day of programming for visitors of all ages in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Studio Museum will be open on Monday, January 19 to honor the civil rights activist and community organizer through gallery tours, art-making workshops, screenings, and more.

Programs will include:

  • Curator Picks: A curator-led tour spotlighting works that resonate with the themes of Martin Luther King Jr Day. By looking at a range of artworks, learn how artists envision care, resistance, and collective futures.

  • Curator Cafe Chat: A drop-in reading program inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Chosen texts are anchored by a single work on view in the Museum. Stop by and engage in a conversation that connects art, writing, and history with contemporary questions of justice and collectivity.

  • Broadcasting Dreams: A curated broadcast of historic speeches, presentations, and other media reflecting the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr, and how the past shapes our present realities.

  • Storytime: A thirty-minute storytime celebrating books by children’s authors and illustrators of African descent. Each session connects stories to themes in the exhibitions on view or to artworks in the Studio Museum’s permanent collection.

  • Gallery Talks: Fifteen-minute tours of our galleries led by our Museum Educators.
