Join us for our next Instagram live conversation between mixed media and performance artist Kalup Linzy and Legacy Russell, Associate Curator, Exhibitions. Using fashion, pop culture, and melodrama to critique ideas of race, sexuality, class, and gender, Linzy challenges not only how we see the world, but how we move through it. In 2009, The Studio Museum in Harlem presented the first survey of the artist’s work in the exhibition Kalup Linzy: If it Don’t Fit. The exhibition included over twenty videos made over seven years, a drawing suite, and a one-night acoustic performance. In each video, Linzy breathes life into a series of characters that are embodied reflections of the complex and tense relationship between socio-political ideologies and our own becoming as individuals. In this live conversation, Linzy and Russell will discuss Linzy’s groundbreaking contributions across the practice of performance as well as the artist’s current and upcoming projects.

To watch the talk, visit the Studio Museum’s Instagram page at 6:00 pm EDT.
