Join us for our next Studio LIVE program featuring multidisciplinary artist and 1998–99 artist in residence Elia Alba. Alba works in photography, video, and sculpture. Her practice explores the social and political complexity of race, representation, identity, and community.

Author of the critically-acclaimed The Supper Club (2019), the publication expands on themes from the dinner series Alba began hosting in 2012 with US-based artists of color, which are presented alongside portraits of dinner participants such as Latoya Ruby Frazier, Mickalene Thomas, Derrick Adams, Firelei Báez, Saya Woolfalk, and more. Alba lives and works in the Bronx and is artist-in-residence at The Andrew Freedman Home. She is guest curator for El Museo del Barrio’s dynamic and groundbreaking ESTAMOS BIEN – LA TRIENAL 20/21, the museum’s first national large-scale survey of Latinx contemporary art featuring more than forty artists from across the United States and Puerto Rico.

During this program Alba and Legacy Russell, Associate Curator, Exhibition will discuss the role of artists in creating space for their peers as part of a collective practice and proposal of sustainable futures within the art world and Afro-Latinx identity as a politic and personhood, central to a historical diasporic discourse and framework.

To watch the talk, visit the Studio Museum’s Instagram page at 6:00 pm EDT.
