Khalif Kelly (2008-09)
Born 1980, Nashville, TN
Lives in New Haven, CT; works in New Haven, CT and New York, NY
Kelly works with themes of memory and identity through aesthetic idioms that draw on digital worlds and popular culture. His paintings follow the non-linear story of an unnamed child hero and his friends on their adventures in a mythical land. Inspired and influenced by such wide-ranging sources as the paintings of Thomas Gainsbourgh, the stop-animation of George Pal and 1980s computer graphics, Kelly explores themes of stereotypes, cultural identity and the mythologies behind social structures.
