Conceived in dialogue with the exhibition The Shadows Took Shape, this panel discussion will be moderated by Nettrice Gaskins, Ph.D. candidate and researcher at Georgia Tech's Experimental Games Lab (EGL) (part of the Digital Media program at the School of Literature, Communication and Culture), and feature artists Coco Fusco, Jacolby Satterwhite and Saya Woolfalk, whose works are included in the two exhibitions currently on view at the Studio Museum, The Shadows Took Shape and Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art.

The program will introduce artists and their works in relationship to "STEAM" (science, technology, engineering, art, math) education. The discussion and supporting presentations will explore topics such as fractal geometry, quantum physics and symmetry, and how artists are working with scientists and mathematicians to create tools that inform future projects.

The Studio Museum in Harlem’s exhibitions are supported with public funds from the following government agencies and elected representatives: The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency; The City of New York; and Council Member Inez E. Dickens, 9th Council District, Speaker Christine Quinn and the New York City Council. Additional funding is provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
