With up coming exhibits and new programs, we are seeking passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to help carry out our mission of encouraging a dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society. Not only are our volunteers flooded with appreciation, but we provide the following benefits as a token of our gratitude.

MUSEUM DOCENT VOLUNTEER

Position Summary
The Studio Museum in Harlem is looking for highly motivated, energetic volunteers to be responsible for leading in-gallery tours and hands-on workshops for school and adult groups. Docents will lead one - hour tours and one and half hour workshops that engage visitors in dialogue about ideas raised by works on view. Experience is preferred though not necessary.

Volunteer Open House:


Thursday, January 21, 3-6pm


Monday, March 1, 3-6pm


Responsibilities include:

  • Leading tours in the museum galleries
  • Leading hands-on workshops for school, family, and community groups
  • Attending exhibition trainings and development sessions
  • Some weekend and evening hours as necessary

Qualifications

  • Interest in contemporary American/African-American art
  • Experience working with youth, families, schools and adults
  • Strong organizational, communicating and administrative experience required
  • Must be available at least four hours a week on either Wednesdays or Thursdays
