Books + Authors

Be sure to arrive early for this already legendary program featuring some of today’s most talented authors. Packed to capacity, Books + Authors is designed to introduce works by literary masters, established living authors and emerging writers. This program also features new titles that explore black culture locally, nationally and internationally. Sometimes it’s a performance and other times it’s a straight reading, but there’s always a discussion filled with rich, diverse perspectives. Each program is followed by a book signing.

The Artists Voice

Finally, an opportunity to be a part of the conversation! These evenings of interaction with artists will get you talking. The Artist’s Voice series provides a forum for artists to explain the philosophies underlying their work and for audiences to ask questions.

Artists-in-Residence Open Studios

This is a great opportunity to preview their new work and meet the artists during their year-long residencies at the Museum.

The Fine Art of Collecting

The Studio Museum developed The Fine Art of Collecting series to educate a new generation of art connoisseurs and provide them with access to world-class curators, conservators, appraisers and renowned collections. The program addresses many key topics including the fundamentals of collecting contemporary art and purchasing art over time.

Uptown Fridays! Music, Cocktails, & Culture

When the weather is beautiful the Museum’s courtyard is open for the Uptown Fridays! program. Bound to get you moving, come dance to the sound of some of the hottest DJs spinning in NYC, connect with others during guided tours, or shop ‘til you drop in the Museum’s newly stocked store. Bring a friend and have a cocktail and conversation. But…whatever you do…don’t miss these fun and festive evenings of culture in Harlem!

Hoofers’ House

In honor of the important place of tap dancing in Harlem’s history, the Museum now
serves as a home for hoofers. Hoofers’ House showcases the fine footwork of a selected few dancers that are slated to burn up the floor!

Inside/Out Gallery & Studio Tours

This program (often offsite) provides participants with a rare opportunity to tour galleries, artist’s studios, and other art spaces in New York City. Led by Museum Staff, including curators, participants are given a behind-the-scenes look at art in various art spaces around New York.
