The Artist's Voice
Dr. David Driskell
A renowned scholar, painter, collector and curator, Dr. David Driskell's work has been and continues to be important to the Studio Museum in Harlem. Driskell's publications, including Two Centuries of Black American Art, Hidden Heritage: Afro American Art, 1800-1950, Contemporary Visual Expressions, African American Visual Aesthetics: a Postmodernist View, are a resource for reflection and interpretation of work by artists of African descent. As an artist, Driskell's paintings and drawings represent various aspects of modern art, combining figurative, narrative, as well as abstract elements. His works often highlight spiritual dimensions with references to American and African art.
It is our honor to present Palm Sunday, 2011 in our current exhibition, The Bearden Project.
